Spring

We drove about 6,000 miles this week and I was so excited to see all the trees and shrubs that were blooming. I-59 south of Chatanooga, TN was so beautiful with red bud trees blooming everywhere. But here's a link to one of my favorite roadside attractions. We did go by it once this week, but it was too dark for me to get a picture.

Houston

We delivered our load this morning in Houston and then we came down to Texas City to get another load. While we are waiting, we drove over to Kirby's Mom's house. She lives in League City, which is between Texas City and Houston. We just got back from a little hamburger joint where we had lunch. Good old fashioned hamburgers and great chili cheese fries. The load we are picking up goes to Moncks Corner, SC. I'm sure Jen has been there a time or two. Maybe they will send us to Charlotte when we get finished and we can stop by to see the grandkids. It won't be long until I get to spend a week with them, and I can hardly wait!!

Windows Vista

I just got my Windows Vista upgrade in the mail today and decided to sit down tonight and install it. The first thing they suggest is that you make recovery CDs so you can go back to XP if you want to. That doesn't sound very reassuring to me. If Vista is so great, why would I want to go back to XP? Then I went to the PC Tools to make the CDs and learned that I would need 18 (yes eighteen) to create the backup. I only need 3 DVDs but of course I didn't have any DVDs, so I'm going to get some and do the recovery disks before I try out Vista.

Home Sweet Home

We got home about midnight and I was again amazed by how many miles we covered in such a short time. We slept last night in Mississippi and here we are tonight in our own bed in WV. We covered about 4,000 miles this week in 7 days. That's not even a record for us, we have done 6,500 in 7 days, but thankfully, that isn't normal. We've been doing this for about 9 years, and it's still exciting for me to see the sights along the road. We drove through Reno this trip and pointed at the lights on the casinos like we had never seen lights before. I guess it's a good thing we still enjoy it. We passed by a camel farm in Texas on I-20 and I thought about Bailey. When I drive with Jen and the boys to Texas in April, we will go by that farm and I hope he gets to see the camels. Wish I'd had my camera handy. I'll be ready next time.

Salt Lake City

This looks like snow at the base of the mountains, but it's piles of salt. I don't know if this is the kind we eat or the kind you use to make ice cream. Or the kind that melts snow.

Salt Lake City

Here's the salt plant. You can see the Morton symbol.

wireless internet

This has been a very frustrating week as far as wireless internet service. We sat in Salt Lake City for a couple of hours at a tank wash and I was able to get online, so I wrote a post for my blog and could never get it to post. I was able to read other blogs, check my mail, look at pictures and videos on other websites, but my post would not go on. I finally gave up. Now we are in Amarillo and I tried for 30 minutes to get online before finally deciding the truck stop was having some kind of problem. So I made Kirby move the truck to another spot where I could try another wireless connection. Then I had to pay $6.95 for 24 hours of service, but of course, I will only get to use an hour or so and he will be ready to leave. So, I am going to try to post this. We got some good pictures along I-80 coming out of Salt Lake City, and thought the mountains of salt and the Morton Salt plant were pretty appropriate. We had a good trip with beautiful weather from WV to UT and then to Fresno, CA. Hope to be home on Sunday for a couple of days.

Busy Day

I had a really busy day today. Two of my sisters and I went shopping in Kentucky. We live in West Virginia, but are only 30 minutes from the border, so we go to a store called Magic Mart to shop sometimes. I remember when my son was younger and used to come here to visit my parents, he thought it was so weird to go to another state to shop. The road actually passes into Kentucky twice on the way, so in that 30 minute drive you are in WV then KY then WV then KY again. Living in the middle of Texas you never cross the border into another state unless you drive for days, so that was strange to him as a kid.

Anyway, we went shopping and they had this buy one get one for $1 sale at Fashion Bug but I only found one thing and my sister found one, so we decide to put them together to get the discount. She pays for everything with her Fashion Bug card that she uses so seldom that it got cancelled once (which is another story altogether), and then we go to another store. Then all of a sudden she says "Hey, we didn't get the discount." I guess it just occurred to her that the total she paid was wrong. So we go back and find out that the shirt she bought was not part of the sale. So I ask the clerk if I can get another top for $1 with my shirt and she says I can. So she refunds everything on my sister's credit card while I'm looking for a second top. When I come back, she rings everything up again, including my second top, then looks at me and says, "That'll be $1.06." I paid her and we left, but we are still trying to figure out why she refunded everything, then rang it up again, but didn't put the extra $1 on the credit card???

As we were leaving, we had to pass by a table of girl scout cookies, so I'm going to start my low carb diet again tomorrow. My favorite diet story is the diet my mother went on where she was allowed to eat two or three animal crackers as a snack. I guess they are low fat or something. Anyway, she was digging through the box and we asked her what she was doing. I am not kidding you, she actually said, "If I only get to eat three of these, I'm eating the elephants because they are bigger than the other animals."

When we got home my husband wanted to go to a movie (300) but I didn't want to see that so I went to see Bridge to Terabithia. This movie was so sad I'm sorry I went to see it. I won't give away the story, but I didn't realize it was such a tear jerker. I knew I should have gone to see Ghost Rider, but it had already started.

I read my daughter's blog tonight and she will be glad to know that I have pulled the wallpaper border off in the spare bedroom and I am currently looking for a replacement. Something in a nautical theme, because I have so much nautical stuff in the living room I've decided to use some of it in that bedroom. I found the prettiest lighthouse plate rack and plates at Magic Mart.

We are leaving tomorrow to go to Salt Lake City, so I may or may not get to post anything for the next few days, but I'll do what I can.

My Space

I have spent half the night working on my husband's My Space page. My nephew started it today and I put some pictures on it for him. I still need to find some pictures of the other kids and grandkids, but I am too tired right now to care. He had a background that he wanted to change and we spent an hour looking for another background. Now my "background" is sore from sitting here. We have a second computer and a wireless adapter, but I haven't installed the wireless thing on my new computer I got for Christmas, so he can't get online in the other room right now. I'll definitely work on that tomorrow. The funniest thing about it was when he told me they tried to get him a yahoo email address and his name was being used by somebody else. I put in his old yahoo address (his name) and password and got a message that he hadn't checked his mail in over four months so the account was inactive. As I suspected, he was the one using his name as an address, thus preventing himself from using his name as an address. I wonder how often he will update his My Space page?? I'm sure that will be my job. I might as well check his email now and then, too.

First Post

Now that I have talked myself into doing this, nothing comes to mind to write about. The only thing on my mind right now is toilet seats. I am working on the hall bathroom at my house and the green toilet seat doesn't match the other greens in the room. I have looked everywhere and can't find one that is the right color green. I even ordered one from EBay!! But I don't really like it either. I'll probably have to go with a different color completely so I don't notice every time I open the door that the green isn't right. Now you know why my daughter thought "long & winding" would be so appropriate for this blog. Has anyone else ever started their blogging by talking about toilet seats? I'm sure there is someone out there in cyberspace who feels my pain.
